Volunteer Timesheet | Steps to Volunteering

OUR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE:

Youth Programs:

  • Mentors and Tutors
Volunteers are matched one-to-one with an at-risk Middle School or Elementary School student who receives services through the JFCS School Based Programs. The volunteer and student meet once a week on the school campus to help students succeed academically and socially.

Targeted Adult Programs:

  • Mentor for Success
Trained volunteers mentor men and women who are scheduled to be released or were recently released from the Sarasota County Jail.  Mentors meet weekly with their mentees.
  • Successful, Talented, Adults Reaching Skyward (STARS)
Volunteers support differently abled adults in a weekly group setting with activities, field trips and socialization.

Senior Programs:

  • Sarasota CARES
Caregivers experience extreme stress.  In this program, trained volunteers provide respite care for the patient, allowing caregivers some time for themselves.
  • Senior Outreach Services (SOS)
Volunteers assist with the SOS Program that helps older adults maintain their independence and enhances their involvement with the community.  The SOS Program is held weekly at multiple community locations and volunteers provide socialization and serve the catered lunch.

Administrative:

  • Intake
Retired mental health professionals volunteer their time utilizing their expertise in intake and other social work functions.
  • Office and Clerical
Volunteers assist with mailings, clerical and receptionist duties, data entry and other special projects at the agency.

Jewish Programs:

  • Jewish Observances - Shabbat, High Holy Day and Jewish Festivals
Volunteers organize and conduct religious services celebrated in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, providing a Jewish connection to the elderly.
  • Bikkur Cholim
Trained volunteers serve as Bikkur Cholim Parachaplains, providing spiritual support and comfort to individuals through inspirational readings, prayers and materials that renew hope and provide the comfort of a Jewish connection.
  • Doula Services for End of Life Transition
Specially trained volunteers establish a one-on-one relationship with care recipients and their families in need of comfort, companionship, support and a spiritual connection as they approach the end of their lives. The volunteer stays with the person regardless of length of time of the transition, offering assistance and advocacy during this time of need.
  • Hospital Visitation
Many patients spend long hours alone. In this program you can visit local hospitals and comfort a friend.
  • Friendly Visitors
People who are homebound or residing in an assisted living or nursing facility receive encouragement and much needed socialization from our caring volunteers.
  • Telephone Reassurance
This program involves a daily phone call at a pre-set time from a volunteer to a client who lives alone, to ensure that person's well being.
