Volunteer Services

VOLUNTEER SERVICESOur Volunteers set the example of the true spirit of caring. Volunteers are a vital part of our agency, providing important services to the young and old. Thanks to our volunteer's commitment and dedication, we are able to touch the lives of many individuals and families in our community.

OUR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE:

Hospital Visitation
Many patients spend long hours alone. In this program you can visit local hospitals and comfort a friend.

Friendly Visitors
People who are homebound or residing in an Assisted Living or Nursing facility receive encouragement and much needed socialization from our caring volunteers.

Telephone Reassurance
This program involves a daily phone call at a pre-set time from a volunteer to a client who lives alone, to assure that person's well being.

Festival Celebrations
Volunteers organize and conduct traditional holiday celebrations at congregate living facilities, which have Jewish residents.

Religious Services
Volunteers conduct services at congregate living and assisted living facilities in the Sarasota and Manatee communities. Services are conducted for Shabbat and for the High Holy Days at the facilities.

Senior Outreach Services (SOS)
Volunteers assist with the SOS Program held weekly at JFCS on Fruitville Road and Temple Beth Israel on Longboat Key for frail, homebound elderly adults by providing socialization and serving a catered lunch following group therapy time.

Nursing Home & Congregate Living Visitation
Residents living in these facilities receive visits from a volunteer who becomes an interested friend.

Mentors and Tutors
Volunteers are matched one-to-one with an at-risk Middle School student who receives services through the Safe Alternative to Out of School Suspension Program. The volunteer and student meet once a week on the school campus to help students succeed academically and socially.

Office and Clerical
Volunteers assist with mailings, clerical and receptionist duties, data entry and other special projects at the agency.

Bikkur Cholim (Jewish Healing Program)
Trained volunteers serve as Bikkur Cholim Parachaplains, providing spiritual support and comfort to individuals through inspirational readings, prayers and materials that renew hope and provide the comfort of a Jewish connection.

Retired Social Workers Program
Retired social workers volunteer their time utilizing their expertise in intake and other social work functions.

Teen Link Cares
A telephone visitation program linking high school students with senior citizens.
