Cancer Support & Wellness

Cancer treatment and recovery can be a challenging road. JFCS is here to help, when you can’t do it alone. Our support groups, workshops, and gentle exercise and wellness classes are provided at no cost to adult patients, caregivers and family affected by a cancer diagnosis.

JFCS Counseling

Adolescent Diversion & Assistance Program

To reduce or prevent future involvement of youth, ages 11-17 years old with the juvenile justice system.

Counseling

Life is complicated and challenging. Sometimes even the most stable people need help in dealing with change and issues that arise in the normal course of living. Counseling assists in building confidence, using existing strengths and learning skills to deal with difficult situations.

Children’s Crisis Team

JFCS, in partnership with The Florida Center, provides a 24/7 Children’s Crisis Team serving children and their families in Sarasota County.

Psychological Testing

Children, adolescents, and young adults. (ages 4 to 21)
Our Assessment Center staff conducts the evaluations in a confidential and child-friendly environment. Our staff includes clinical psychologists with over 30 years experience working as teachers and clinicians with at-risk children, adolescents, young adults, and their families who are experiencing emotional and behavioral issues.

STARS Program for differently-abled individuals

STARS offers adults with developmental disabilities a unique opportunity to encourage self-esteem and self-respect while learning valuable life and social skills. This weekly co-ed program offers a venue where individuals can make new friends and discover new interests.

Voluntary Interim Placement Enhanced Recovery Program (VIPER)

The VIP-ER Program is a long term residential substance abuse program located at The Salvation Army, Center of Hope (1400 10th Street, Sarasota, FL 34243). VIP-ER is a consortium of 6 agencies that partner together to provide services to individuals residing at The Salvation Army who are struggling with substance abuse and related issues.

JFCS Families

Building Strong Families Homelessness Prevention

Building Strong Families Homelessness Prevention program provides case management, counseling and cash assistance to families at-risk of becoming homeless, with the goal of emotional and financial stability and self-sufficiency.

Healthy Families/Healthy Children

Healthy Families/Healthy Children provides skill building services promoting healthy relationships and healthy parenting/co-parenting, while also empowering participants towards economic stability. The program serves residents of Sarasota and Manatee County who are between the ages of 18 – 64. Participants can enroll as individuals or as couples.

Healthy Families/Healthy Fathers

Healthy Families/Healthy Fathers is an initiative that provides fathers with parenting, communication and money management skills so they can be a better parent and provider.

JFCS Jewish Healing

Bereavement Services

The death of a loved one is perhaps the deepest loss human beings experience. JFCS offers bereavement support groups to help individuals receive support and discover ways to cope.

Bikkur Cholim (Visiting the Sick) and Friendly Visitors

Trained volunteers offer support in the Jewish tradition of visiting the ill, providing companionship to alleviate isolation and loneliness.

Community Chaplain

The Community Chaplain facilitates visitation programs for unaffiliated Jews at local hospitals, assisted living facilities and nursing homes, directs JFCS’s Bereavement Support Groups, supervises the agency’s Friendly Visitors and prison ministry programs, and participates in the Jewish Aging Mastery Program, a national pilot program offered in conjunction with The Patterson Foundation. This position is made possible by a grant from The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee.

Community Religious Outreach

JFCS provides religious services to residents at area senior living facilities.

Grace Rosen Magill Library

The library offers many resources for inspiration, support and training.

Holocaust Survivor Support and Assistance

Experienced case managers assist survivors in identifying challenges and connecting to needed financial resources.

Prison Ministry

Providing religious services and spiritual outreach to Jewish inmates at local and state correctional facilities.

Alzheimer’s Support & Education Network

Alzheimer’s Support & Education Network (ASEN) is a federally funded program that provides essential services to individuals and families who are coping with the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

Caring From a Distance

A caring connection for out of town families. Care management enables seniors to age in place safely and with dignity by developing individualized plans of support and connections to essential community resources and offers a local caring connection for out of town families.

Licensed clinical social workers provide mental health support to seniors coping with the challenges of aging.

Geriatric Care Management

Respite

At JFCS, we recognize the importance of respite for the caregiver’s health and wellness.  We offer free onsite respite for your care partner during caregiver support groups so you can focus on YOU.

At JFCS, we strive to meet the challenges of aging by providing essential programs and services to our senior clients, preserving their dignity and respect while supporting their desire to live independently in their community.

Transportation

JFCS handicapped accessible vans are available to transport participants from their homes or communities to our programs.

Operation Military Assistance Program offers case management and financial assistance to very low-income veterans and their families who are literally homeless or who are about to become homeless to enable them to obtain or maintain stable, permanent housing.

Camp Mariposa is a program designed to help meet the needs of children (9-12 years old) facing the difficult challenges associates with an addicted or co-dependent family member.

JFCS Summer Programs involve middle school youth, ages 11-14.

School Based Programs

School Based Programs / Safe Alternative to Out-of-School Suspension Program (SATOSS) provides services to at-risk youth at Emma E. Booker, Heron Creek, Booker and McIntosh Middle Schools and  Booker High School in Sarasota County.
