Gulf Coast Community Foundation
 AWARDS GRANT TO JFCS

In December 2011, the Board of Directors of Gulf Coast Community Foundation approved a grant from The Venice Endowment Fund to JFCS in the amount of $79,571 to continue funding the position of National and Governmental Grant Writer at the agency. This position has helped JFCS secure more than $5.7 million in funding for essential safety net services it provides in the region. The goal of this grant is to realize an increase in revenue of $238,713 in national and governmental grants in 2012. "Thanks to the funding and support received from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, JFCS is positioned to secure additional funding to provide critical services to the most vulnerable members of our community...children, families and seniors who turn to JFCS to overcome life's challenges," stated Rose Chapman, President/CEO.

Strategy Counts at JFCS!

JFCS was one of 14 nonprofits around the country awarded a grant from the Alliance for Children and Families in December 2011 to implement a pilot project meant to explore, test, and gain understanding of the elevation of strategy within nonprofit human service agencies. JFCS will institute its own Strategy Counts at JFCS! Program which is a transformational project which will build stronger teams and transform the current culture into a culture of shared ownership and responsibility. "This grant enables JFCS to not only improve our own services and ultimately reach even more vulnerable citizens," said Rose Chapman, LCSW, President/CEO. "But it means we are part of an exciting program that is closely examining how nonprofit human service organizations can be even more effective throughout the country."

HomeBIZ941 names Rose Chapman Best Boss in Sarasota

Rose Chapman's favorite business book is Good to Great, written by Jim Collins. She models her exceptional work as the CEO of JFCS after a quote from the book. "Get the right people on the bus, the right people into the right seats, the wrong people off the bus, and then we can take the organization to a great place."

Rose seems to have successfully gotten the right people in the right seats! BIZ941, a local magazine, just published the list of Best Bosses in its May issue. This year, 160 employees filled hundreds of pages enthusing about the inspiring men and women who lead their teams. The 2011 Best Bosses surfaced as savvy, passionate and generous employers.

With nearly 20 years of experience Rose recalls taking to heart words from one of her first bosses when she began her career in social work. "When I first entered the field I was pretty young, and my supervisor wanted me to take my first student," Chapman says. "I didn't think I was ready." She said, "You do good work, and it's your duty to provide that knowledge to the next generation."

Throughout all the growth, Chapman has continued to work hands-on with employees and clients. Her staff says her quiet strength and ability to lead by example are awe-inspiring, especially in an economic climate when so many more clients need food, shelter, drug counseling and medical help. "Mission is a priority," Chapman says. "I look for staff who have passion for their work and see it as more than a job."

JFCS Received Award from

Alliance for Children and families

JFCS received the agency of the year award from the Alliance for Children and Families at its 2010 Annual Conference recently held in Milwaukee, WI.  One of three recipients of this prestigious national award, JFCS was selected because of its excellence in board participation and support, impact of advocacy efforts, and innovative programming.  "As a member association, the Alliance is grateful that members such as JFCS are part of our strong network," said Peter B. Goldberg, President and CEO of the Alliance.  "An inspiration to its peer organizations, JFCS is innovative and strategic in its daily execution of its mission."  The Alliance for Children and Families is a national membership association of over 340 nonprofit human service providers in the United States and Canada.  Motivated by a vision of a healthy society and strong communities, the alliance strengthens the capacities of North America's nonprofit child- and family- serving organizations to serve and to advocate for children, families, and communities.

JFCS Is reaccredited by international Organization

Jewish Family & Children’s Service is proud to announce the agency has been reaccredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).  COA is an international, independent not-for-profit organization that accredits community-based behavioral health care and human service organizations.  Undertaken every four years, the COA reaccreditation process involves a detailed review and analysis of JFCS’ administrative operations and its service delivery practices.  Organizations are “measured” against national standards of best practice.  These standards emphasize that services are accessible, appropriate, culturally responsive, evidence based and outcomes-oriented.  In addition, services must be provided by a skilled and supported workforce with all individuals being treated with dignity and respect.

COA maintains the highest level of standards and quality improvement and is designed to identify providers that set high performance standards and are committed to delivering the highest quality services.  Today, over 1,800 organizations – public and private are either COA accredited or are in the process of seeking accreditation.

This is the fourth time JFCS has received accreditation.
